The DADO Fund

In October, 2009, Dr. Shari Lyons lost her father, Dave Albert, to a brief illness. Dave had been a significant force in Dr. Shari's life, not only as a father, but as a mentor and lover of animals. As a young man, Dave had considered being a veterinarian, but was guided instead to a career in engineering.

His love for pets never waned as evidenced by the many animal related pursuits he enjoyed. His assistance was immeasurable with his children's dog washing business and as the children grew, he continued as a dog trainer for the Pike Township 4-H program. After retiring from GM, he started his own business grooming dogs and cats and providing "do it yourself" grooming facilities. His own dogs and cats gave him so much joy he was never without a Max or Bailey story.

In honor of her father, Dr. Shari has created the Dave Albert Defense of (DADO) Animals Fund. This fund is dedicated to improving the health and welfare of local homeless and needy pets. These funds will stay in Boone county and one hundred percent of the money donated will go to discounted services provided by the Zionsville Country Veterinary Clinic.

Donations can be made for any reason, but many of the initial donations were made in Dave's honor and in memory of beloved pets. Dave Albert had a tender heart and was often moved by the same brown eyes the Dave Albert Memorial Fund intends to protect. Although he will always be missed, Dr. Shari is sure he would be proud to know that animals in need were being helped in his memory.

Feral Cat Fridays

What is a feral cat? It is a cat born and raised in the wild, or who has been abandoned or lost and reverted to wild ways in order to survive. While some feral cats tolerate a bit of human contact, most are too fearful and wild to be handled. Zionsville Country Veterinary Clinic provides discounted services for these feral cats in order to:

  • Reduce the number of free-roaming and unowned stray or abandoned cats.
  • Reduce the impact of free-roaming cats on the environment.
  • Improve the quality of life of free-roaming cats.
  • Reduce the number of cats placed in and euthanized in area shelters.
  • Increase the chances for shelter cats to be placed in homes.

For just $35, ZCVC will provide medical care including an examination, rabies vaccine, flea medication, spay/neuter and ear tipping.

"I Saved a Life" Discount Program

Many homeless, stray, and unwanted pets fill our local shelters and rescues each year. Those pets deserve a second chance at receiving a loving home. We appreciate those who choose to help the community by lessening that number when giving a home to one of these pets in need.

To those who are choosing to adopt from a registered shelter or rescue, we are offering two wonderful discounts: the pet’s first exam is FREE, and we are giving a discount card that takes an additional 10% off all medical services (excluding food and medications) for one year. It’s our way of saying “thank you for saving a life” and giving a second chance to a pet in need.

Rover Rescue, Foster Parenting

As the Humane Society for Boone County became established in February 2007, we took note of the wonderful changes they were beginning to make regarding animals in need in Boone County. Having foster homes is crucial to the success of the Boone County Humane Society, and we want to encourage more involvement and commitment to the Boone County animals in need.

To say thank you to those people that have consistently shown their support by making the commitment to the foster care program, our “Rover Rescue” program allows a discount card for 10% off all medical services (exluding food and medications) for EACH of your OWN PETS! You truly give the needed support in making their goal obtainable. This is our way of thanking you for what you do!
