Pain Management
Because animals hide pain so well, must of the information regarding pain management in pets has only recently come to light. At Zionsville Country Veterinary Clinic, we are very cognizant of our patient's level of pain. Just as in people, the ability to anticipate a painful incident allows better control overall. We administer pre-operative pain medication as well as send home medicine for home administration in order to keep your pet as pain-free as possible.
We also take advantage of multiple modality pain management, which allows for combinations of available options to improve overall pain control. These options include:
- IV CRI
- local
- injectable NSAIDs and opiods
- oral NSAIDs and opiods
- transdermal options
The key to pain management hinges on recognition. Our staff is carefully trained to recognize the first signs of pain, which allows the doctor to intervene as appropriate. And since pain delays healing, this careful attention not only allows the least amount of pain possible, it also speeds healing as well.
